Robert Stadler

Born in 1966 in Vienna, Austria. He studied design at the IED in Milan and at the ENSCI in Paris. In 1992 he cofounded the Radi Designers group, which was active until 2008. The group created limited edition pieces for Galerie Kreo. It also developed important industrial design commissions for Air France and Moulinex.

In 2001 Robert Stadler opened his own design studio in Paris. He works for clients like Drucker, Fabbian, Ghidini 1961, Hermès, Lobmeyr, Thonet and Vitra. He has also created a large number of limited edition pieces for Carpenters Workshop Gallery.

There are objects designed by him in numerous permanent collections: Centre Georges Pompidou , MAK – Museum for Applied Arts in Vienna, MAD in Paris, Fondation Cartier pour l’Art contemporain, Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, Kunstmuseen Krefeld, Vitra Design Museum.

Stadler also regularly curates exhibitions. These have included “QUIZ” – at the Galerie Poirel in Nancy and at the MUDAM Luxemburg – and “Typecasting . An Assembly of Iconic, Forgotten and New Vitra Characters” at La Pelota during the Milan Design Week in 2018.

In 2017 “You May Also Like: Robert Stadler”, his first retrospective show, was staged at the Kunsthalle in Lipsiusbau in Dresden, Germany. In the same year, the Noguchi Museum in New York presented “Solid Doubts”, his first institutional exhibition in the United States, in a dialogue with the works of Isamu Noguchi.

Stadler’s presence in the United States continued in 2022 with “START”, a duo with Richard Artschwager at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in New York, and “Playdate”, a solo show at the Glass House, New Canaan Connecticut.
